In the early 20th Century, the 11th floor of the Sardi Building was originally the apartment of J.J. Shubert, one of the founding brothers of the Shubert Organization. The Shubert Organization continued to utilize the space after it was no longer used as a residence. In 1996, a renovation project was undertaken to optimize the use of the space for the Shubert Organization and the Shubert Foundation. The plan was revised to accommodate offices and support spaces. The most elegant space, the former living room was restored for use as a multi-purpose space for readings and presentations. It was furnished with antique furniture and accessories and augmented with new period style pieces.
